Share bans with other streamers, and handle appeals

Sync your bans across platforms, use the shared banlist, and give viewers a way to appeal.

Two related things: pulling in bans other streamers have already made, and giving the people you ban somewhere to argue their case that is not your DMs. All of it is in the app under Chat > Moderation, apart from Trusted Circles.

1. Sync your own bans first

  1. In the app, open Chat > Moderation in the sidebar and pick the Community Ban List tab. (Older app versions: Channel Settings > Community Ban List.)
  2. Under Your bans, check Ban across all my connected platforms is on - it is by default.
  3. Ban somebody once and they are banned on your other platforms too: the ban is applied when that name turns up there.

2. Use the shared list

  1. Turn on Add people I ban to the shared list to contribute your bans. Others only see them after they are reviewed.
  2. Warn me when a flagged viewer chats is on by default. Only warn after this many streamers sets how many must have flagged someone first.
  3. To act on the list automatically, turn on Auto-ban viewers flagged by enough other streamers and set Flagged by at least.
  4. To check the people already in your chat, click Scan my chatters. Review the matches, use Select all or tick them one by one, then click Ban selected. Nothing is banned until you press it.
  5. Apply the shared list shows how many people the shared list would ban before you confirm.

3. Trusted circles

  1. Open Trusted Circles in the sidebar, under Community.
  2. Under Start or join a circle, type a name and click Create - or paste an invite code from a friend and click Join.
  3. Share your circle's code, from Copy invite code, only with streamers you actually trust.
  4. A ban by anyone in your circle applies in your channel straight away, with no threshold and no review.

4. Turn on appeals

  1. Back in Chat > Moderation, open the Ban Appeals tab and turn on Accept appeals.
  2. Write What you tell them - it is shown at the top of your appeal page.
  3. Under Where the link appears, choose where your appeal link is published: Post it in chat when the bot bans someone, Add it to the ban reason, or Show it on your public profile. All are off by default.
  4. Appeals arrive in Appeal Inbox, under Moderation. Approve & unban, or Deny.

Scan my chatters and Apply the shared list ban real people in bulk, so read the list before you confirm. A shared list is other streamers' judgement, not yours, and it is your channel that gets the complaint.

Approve & unban lifts the ban on the platform the appeal came from and takes them off your synced ban list, in one action. On YouTube this works for bans GriddleBot made in the last 30 days; older ones, and ones made in YouTube Studio, are lifted in YouTube Studio.
