Set up clips on Kick

Get !clip working on Kick, and know why it needs the app running when Twitch does not.

On Twitch, !clip works as soon as your account is connected. Kick blocks GriddleBot's servers, so on Kick the clip is made by the GriddleBot app on your PC, through the Kick account you sign in to there. It is a normal Kick clip with a Kick link - no OBS needed.

1. Open the GriddleBot app on the PC you stream from and check it says Linked.
2. In the app, open Settings at the bottom of the sidebar, find Kick Connection and click Sign in to Kick. Log in to the Kick account you stream on.
3. Open Broadcast > Clips & VODs and pick the Clip command tab (older app versions: Channel Settings > Clip command). Check Let chat make clips is on (it is by default).
4. Use Who can to choose the lowest role allowed to use !clip - Everyone, Subscribers, VIPs, Moderators or Just me.
5. Leave How on The platform's own clipper - that is the setting that makes a real Kick clip. It saves as you change it.
6. While you are live, type !clip in your Kick chat. Add a length to choose it: !clip 60 makes a one-minute clip, anywhere from 5 seconds to 3 minutes.

The app has to be running. If it is closed, !clip answers that the app needs to be open instead of making a clip. Turn on Start with Windows in the app's Settings so it is always there when you go live.

Kick clips are only created while you are actually live. Running !clip when the stream is offline cannot work - there is nothing to capture.

Also save an OBS replay keeps a copy from OBS's replay buffer as well - the Kick clip is still made. Auto-clips on Kick are real Kick clips too, so they don't need the replay buffer.

Kick keeps its clips like any other. Clips saved from OBS instead are stored by GriddleBot for 45 days, so download any of those you want to keep.
